METHOD FOR DETECTING THE SIZE OF CEREBRAL TEMPORAL LOBES AT ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC A61B6/03

Abstract RU 2306102 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: the present innovation deals with detecting the stages of Alzheimer's disease. It is necessary to carry out cerebral computed tomography. A patient should be placed according to classical technique. One should conduct the successive measurement of substance's area of right and left cerebral temporal lobes at every scan. One should calculate the areas of inferior horn of lateral ventricle and those of grooves to compare with the area of corresponding cranial fossa at the same level. Then it is necessary to carry out the scaling of the obtained above-mentioned parameters against the thickness of every scan and every interval between the scans. Then it is important to determine the volumes of right and left cerebral temporal lobes and the weight of cerebral tissue in the regions under testing to sum up the weight of the tissue in right and left temporal lobes. One should estimate percentage decrease of the weight of cerebral temporal lobes against age norm and disease stage. Pre-clinical stage corresponds to the decrease of temporal lobe tissue weight ranged 7-8% in senile and elderly patients and to the decrease ranged 4-8% in patients aged up to 45. Early clinical stage corresponds to the decrease of weight ranged 8-18% in both age groups at 1-2-yr-long disease anamnesis. Average clinical stage corresponds to the decrease of the weight of about 18-32% at 6-yr-long anamnesis. Late clinical stage corresponds to the decrease of weight ranged 32-65% at anamnesis being up to 12 yr. The innovation suggested enables to carry out diagnostics of Alzheimer's disease according to the results of cerebral computed tomography.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of diagnostics.
