FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy; methods of production of tungsten hexafluoride out of the metallic tungsten.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the methods of production of the tungsten hexafluoride out of the metallic tungsten and may be used in the tungsten fluoride metallurgy. The method of production of the tungsten hexafluoride provides for fluorination of the metallic tungsten by the gaseous mixture of the fluorine with the tungsten hexafluoride at its recirculation. The tungsten fluorination is conducted at the sub-atmospheric pressure and at the share of the fluorine in the mixture of not less than 50 vol.%, at the degree of the fluorine usage for one passage through the reaction zone of no more than 40 %. The formed gaseous mixture is additionally exposed to the fluorination at the temperature of 525 - 775°K in the presence of the catalyst. The catalyst is selected out of the following number: the nickel, iron, their fluorides, fluorides of the alkaline and alkaline-earth metals. The technical result of the invention is the improved quality of the produced tungsten hexafluoride and the increased safety of the process of its production.
