FIELD: radar equipment, applicable in pulse radars designed for navigation, aero-space reconnaissance of ships.
SUBSTANCE: the method consists in expansion of the class of radars, in which detection and selection of the above-water ships on the background of false targets from the spatially arranged reflectors of the type of clouds of dipole reflectors (atmosphere precipitation, cloud cover, blocks of birds, areas of a disturbed sea surface) and small-sized reflectors of the corner reflector type (inflatable corner reflector, beacon, buoy, sign, barrel, etc.), as well as in reduction of time necessary for taking a decision of the truth of the detected target due to a simultaneous selection of the detected target as an above-water ship and by the criterion "above-water ship-cloud of dipole", and by the criterion "above-water ship-corner reflector" at a multi-frequency sounding with a returning of the carrier frequency to value Δf from sounding to sounding at m frequencies without an additional sounding at a constant carrier frequency.
EFFECT: expanded class of radar, reduced time for taking the decision on the truth of detected target.
