METHOD OF ACCELERATING SEPARATION OF GRANULATED METALLIC IRON AND SLAG Russian patent published in 2007 - IPC C21B13/10 

Abstract RU 2312899 C2

FIELD: separation of granulated metallic iron in form of target product and slag in form of byproduct.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes reducing smelting of lumpy charge containing material with iron oxide and carbon-containing reducing agent for obtaining the melt which is cooled down in furnace at the first stage of cooling. Thus, mixture containing granules of metal, granules of slag and heterogeneous solid mixture in form of granules of metal stuck with slag is unloaded from furnace. Then, heterogeneous solid mixture obtained at cooling and solidification is subjected to second stage of cooling at higher rate as compared with natural cooling with the use of coolant and to separation into granules of metallic iron and slag, after which natural cooling is carried out and granules of metallic iron are separated from granules of slag.

EFFECT: considerable acceleration of process; high quality of metallic iron.
