FIELD: production of metallic iron.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes delivery of mixture of carbon-containing reductant and iron oxide to movable hearth of reducing melting furnace where it is heated for reducing and melting the iron oxide. Metallic iron thus obtained is cooled and is unloaded from furnace. Prior to delivery of mixture, granulated material is laid on movable hearth for forming the laminated replaceable hearth. Part of replaceable hearth or entire replaceable hearth which is broken in the course of operation is removed and material is again delivered for forming the replaceable hearth. Surface of new replaceable hearth is smoothed-out and mixture for production of metallic iron is supplied to it. In case of sinking of metallic iron in hearth surface or in case of breakdown of hearth of due to penetration of slag and corrosion, it is removed and repaired, thus ensuring continuous operation.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency; continuous operation.
