FIELD: nuclear fuel technology; production of carbon-graphite materials.
SUBSTANCE: proposed carbon-graphite fuel element has fuel microelements covered with shielding coating of pyrocarbon and silicon carbide, measures being taken to prevent their contact with fuel element surface; fuel microelements are disposed in effective cylindrical space of fuel element whose radius is not over (R - 1r) and maximal height is (h - 2r), where R, h is fuel element radius and height, respectively; r is radius of fuel microelement. Method for producing carbon-graphite cylindrical fuel element includes graphite pre-knurling onto fuel microelements, mixing of the latter, graphite, and binder, compression, and heat treatment. In the process 0.3-0.4 fractions of graphite are knurled onto fuel microelements and 0.03-0.06 ones are used as end gaskets. Measures are taken to prevent crack formation at concentration of fuel microelements in fuel elements amounting to 15-30 volume percent.
EFFECT: enhanced yield.
