FIELD: pipeline engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises setting the roll of insulating belt on the pulley of the insulating machine, securing the end of the insulating belt to the pipeline, and winding the belt on the pipeline for permitting control of tension. Before securing the end of the insulating belt to the pipeline, the section of the measuring belt is wound on the roll. The measuring section has known dependence of relative elongation on tension and is provided with scale made of transverse marks. The section is secured to the pipeline, and it is wound on the pipeline. The actual elongation of the measuring belt is determined, and the measuring section is removed from the pipeline.
