FIELD: production of welded parts, possibly restoration of shafts.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of mechanically working journals of shafts while technologically embedding shaft body along the whole width of restored surface; arranging at preliminary tightness thin-wall cover strips in the form of slit ring or ring halves for compensating metal wear; using thin-wall cover strip whose width, length and thickness are determined from given expression; securing cover strips to worked journals by welding their butts and welding-through them with shaft journal for receiving butt welded joint; placing electric rivets on surfaces of cover strips at both sides from butt welded joint; spacing electric rivets nearest to butt welded joint by distance from said joint no less than 15 mm; welding thin-wall cover strips to shaft journals by annular welded seams over edges of cover strips along edge of their working surfaces while providing between journal and cover strips tightness whose value is in range 0.05 - 1 mm; grinding journals according to nominal or restoration size.
EFFECT: improved quality of restored shafts.
