FIELD: discharge engineering and dischargers designed for handling high-level energy and for overvoltage protection of apparatuses and communication lines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed switching device such as protective discharger has coaxially disposed internal and external electrodes 1 and 2, respectively, secured at one end to insulator 3 and current lead-ins 4, 5. External electrode 2 is made in the form of hollow cylinder. At least one of electrodes on side of insulator 3 has pointed edge 6 which is in definite space relation with respect to other electrode surface. Electrodes are mounted in case 5 with holes 7 that functions at the same time as current lead-in for external electrode 2 and is connected to the latter on end of insulator 3. Lead-in case 5 is closed on end opposing insulator 3 with bottom 8 incorporating lead 9 for connection to power circuit.
EFFECT: enhanced operating reliability and stability under heavy-current conditions with high charge per pulse.
