FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: switching device includes the first and the second main electrodes divided with a discharge gap, initiation devices of a discharge in the discharge gap, which are made in the form of ignitor electrodes, and an additional switching device made in the form of a discharge device. Ignitor electrodes contact with their end faces to side surfaces of electrodes so that cathode and anode spots are formed at breakdown of the discharging device. As a result, cathode spots being the main initiators of occurrence of a discharge in the gap are generated on one of the main electrodes, which is a cathode at this polarity of voltage on the electrodes.
EFFECT: improving operating stability of a switching device at protection against heteropolar overvoltage.
