SUBSTANCE: invention relates to steam irons. The steam iron incorporates a heating sole, an evaporation chamber and a multifunctional detail, which serves both as a heat shield and an iron skirt. The multifunctional detail forms, at least partially, the evaporation chamber over the sole. Preferably, the multifunctional detail forms the water tank bottom. It is made of heat proof plastic, for example, of polyester or polysulfone, and contact with the sole by means of sealing gaskets made of foam silicone. The iron skirt forms the evaporation chamber walls.
