FIELD: microscopic examination.

SUBSTANCE: inventive method is implemented by means of the computer-aided communication between a laboratory technician station and a consultant station. Macroscopic examination of a surgical specimen containing a thyroid neoplasm is carried out at the laboratory technician station. Enlarged digital images of a marcoregion, which has been marked at the consultant station, are obtained thereby. An area wherefrom a histological tissue section is to be cut at the laboratory technician station is determined at the consultant station. Microscopic examination of the histological tissue section is carried out at the laboratory technician station, whereby digital images of the histological tissue section and enlarged digital images of the regions, which have been marked at the consultant station, are obtained. The obtained images are described by formalised signs and reference images, having similar combinations of formalised signs, are selected on the basis of the obtained combination of said signs. Results of the comparison between the obtained and reference images are used for histological diagnosis of the thyroid neoplasm.

EFFECT: increasing the objectivity and accuracy of examination and, as a consequence thereof, increasing the certainty of diagnoses and decreasing subjectivism, as well as reducing the time required for executing automated examination of specimens, including examination in the course of surgical operations.
