FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to iron and steel metallurgy, particularly to out-of furnace treatment of iron. A compact-material consists of powdered filler-core, encompassed by a steel coat in form of a wire or band, containing magnesium and staurolite. The powdered filler-core additionally includes carbon containing material at a following combination of ingredients - magnesium: carbon containing material = 1:(0.5-1.0):(5-7). The invention facilitates reduction of magnesium losses at ladle processing of iron due to reduction of oxidising of staurolite.
EFFECT: reduction of magnesium losses at ladle processing of iron.
