FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention pertains to obtaining film coating with a wide range of colours when making tinted, light reflecting glass, when depositing decorative coating on ceramic items, as well as when making dielectric and semiconductor coatings in electronics. The method involves putting a metal containing component into a water-alcohol solution. The metal containing component used is a metal, chosen from Cu, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni and/or their oxide, and/or their hydroxide in quantity of 0.1-0.5 g. at/mol, nitric acid in quantity of 0.15-1.0 g/mol/l, complex forming agent, in form of orthophosphoric acid in quantity of 0.002-0.05 g. mol/l and a surface active substance. The surface active substance used is a 10% water solution of Tween-80 in quantity of not less than 0.01 l. The overall quantity of water in the solution should not be more than 50% of the total volume of the obtained solution. To reduce toxicity, it is advisable to put a non-volatile water soluble organic compound like glycerin or urea, in quantity of not less than 0.01 g. mol/l.
