METHOD FOR FORECASTING OF HETEROSIS EFFECT IN PIG BREEDING Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC A01K67/02

FIELD: cattle breeding.

SUBSTANCE: method presupposes individual selection and sampling of animals according to the index, taking into consideration multifetation of the breeding sow (heads), milk capacity (kg), number of piglets at weaning time (heads) and weight of the nest at piglets weaning (kg). Whereat weight of the nest and number of piglets at weaning are calculated for the ages of 30 - 60 days inclusively. Real variable weight coefficient of the nest weight at weaning (K) received by extrapolative method for every piglets' age period is also taken into account. Index of reproductive value (IRV) of breeding sows is calculated from the expression: IRV=1.1·x1+0.3·x2+3.3·x3+K·x4 where: IRV - index of reproductive value of the breeding sow, points; x1 - multifetation, heads; x2 - milk capacity, kg; x3 - number of piglets at weaning, kg; K - weight coefficient of the weight of nest at weaning. Heterosis effect of combination of animals is calculated from the expression EH=(Mp/Mo)×100, where EH -effect of heterosis, %; Mp - mean IRV for the breed, points; Mo - individual value of IRV of the sow, points. Positive, neutral and negative heterosis effects are predicted in regard to the population . Combining ability of animals with EH value below the similar mean value among the herdmates in the population by 5% is considered a negative variant of heterosis by reproductive value. Combining ability of animals with EH value above the similar mean value in herdmates by 5% is considered a positive variant of hererosis by reproductive value; compatibility of animals with EH value within the mean value ± 5% in population or in breed is considered neutral variant of heterosis by reproductive value.

EFFECT: increases reliability of prediction of reproductive value of a breeding sow.
