FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: through the internal volume of a gas-discharge tube with a specimen of metallic strontium, a longitudinal pulsed-periodic electrical discharge is passed. Radiation with wavelength ranging from 1.0 mcm to 3.1 mcm is then generated. The radiation is then selected on these wavelengths. The intensity of the radiation is measured, and the power or the discharge is maintained such that, the intensity or power of the selected radiation has maximum value, or less than the maximum by not more than 50% when the power of the electrical discharge falls, or is equal to zero if the power of the electrical radiation increases. Increase in the power of the electrical discharge stops when the power or intensity of radiation with the given wavelengths falls to zero.

EFFECT: increased power; longer operation time.
