FIELD: metallurgy industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to powder metallurgy, and namely to method of obtaining sponge iron used for fine metal powder manufacture. Iron oxide is mixed with iron powder and carbon-bearing matter. Obtained mixture is briquetted and reduced by means of being heated. At that, phenol-formaldehyde resin is used as carbon-bearing matter; iron oxide particle size is less than 1 micron, and heating of briquettes is two-staged. At the first stage they are heated with no air access at t=750-800°C, and at the second stage - in vacuum at t=800-850°C.
EFFECT: improving degree of dispersion of sponge iron structure, which allows obtaining fine powder therefrom, as well as reducing energy consumption.
