FIELD: chemistry; biochemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to biotechnology and can be used for detecting volatile phenol compounds in gas mixtures using sensors. The bio-modifier contains a biologically active agent, in form of an acetone suspension from a mycelial biomass of high edible mushroom, containing polyphenol oxidase in quantity of 5-10 mg/g of raw biomass, fixed in a polymer matrix for depositing onto an electrode of a mass-measuring transducer. The mushrooms can be Pleurotus ostreatus, Lentinus edodes or Flammulina velutipes. The material for the polymer matrix can be chosen from Triton X-100. The content of active agent in the polymer matrix is 9-15 wt %.

EFFECT: increased sensitivity, sorption and desorption rate and provides for repeated use of biocatalyst with life-time of up to 3-4 months, short sampling time (25-30 s), permissible detection error, and possibility of including sensors in the matrix when analysing multi-component mixtures, containing phenols.
