FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns sorption engineering. Method of obtaining activated carbon out of peat involves raw material grinding, addition of modifier at weight ratio of peat to modifier 1:(0.3-3), granulation, drying, carbonation at 450-600°C and granule activation by water steam or mix of H2O+CO2 at 880-950°C. Products of thermoplastic depolymerisation by sulfuric acid are used as peat modifiers, obtained at polymer to H2SO4 weight ratio equal to 1:(1-3).
EFFECT: enhanced abrasion durability of activated peat-based carbon in 1,22-1,26 times (up to 95-98,2%) while keeping total pore volume above 0,7-0,8 cm3/g and micropore part in total pore volume around 63-36%.
