FIELD: physics, measurements.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring techniques, in particular, to definition of physical and mechanical characteristics (durability) of ice formations in natural conditions in wells. The way consists in drilling a well in ice, accommodating a probe therein, producing increased pressure in hydraulic cylinder. The said pressure allows penetration of indentors arranged aligned with the hydraulic cylinders into the well wall. Now the ice durability is determined by measuring the pressure in the aforesaid hydraulic cylinder. Note here that, a bearing plate is installed before one of the indentors after accommodation of the probe in the well and prior to feeding high pressure.

EFFECT: deep penetration of indentor into well wall.
