FIELD: physics, communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to transmission of channel quality information (CQI) for subcarriers from mobile station (MS) to base station (BS) in system of orthogonal multiple access with frequency division (OFDMA). According to invention the whole range of communication system frequencies is divided into multiple subcarriers. For MS communication either detached subcarriers are used - mode of diversion, or multiple ranges that comprise adjacent subcarriers - mode of adaptive modulation and coding (AMC). At that average value of subcarrier signal ratio to disturbance plus noise (CINR) is sent for the whole range of frequencies, if MS works in diversion mode. Differential CINR of preset number of ranges is transmitted, if MS works in AMC mode.
