SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication, more specifically to information channel feedback, which characterises wireless transmission between a base station and a mobile station. The method includes, at a base station, receiving a primary identifier which identifies a cluster associated with channel response generated by a mobile station, receiving a differential identifier which identifies a channel response element in a cluster identified by the primary identifier, and placing in a predefined responses codebook the predefined channel response identified by the primary identifier and the differential identifier. The predefined channel responses in the codebook are grouped into a plurality of clusters according to a correlation criterion, wherein each cluster includes a plurality of predefined channel response elements. The method also includes generating a control signal for controlling transmissions to a mobile station according to the placed predefined channel response. The method also includes, in a mobile station, determining channel response on at least one carrier frequency obtained in the mobile station, and determining the location in the predefined response codebook of the predefined channel response which best corresponds to the determined channel response, triggering the mobile station to transmit the primary identifier identifying a cluster associated with the placed predefined channel response to a base station, and triggering the mobile station to transmit the differential identifier identifying the predefined channel response element placed in the cluster identified by the primary identifier.
