FIELD: mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: carbon dioxide liquid phase is fed via channel 3 with piston 2 in its TDC. Having passed throttle 4, liquid carbon dioxide is transformed, inside casing 1, into two-phase medium consisting of light drops and gaseous carbon dioxide. Downstroke of piston 2 shuts off carbon dioxide feed to increase the pressure that allows development of crystallisation centres. To form dry ice granules, the proposed apparatus additionally incorporates a pair of engaged forming gears 11 fitted at the outlet of casing 1 inner space to run driven by appropriate drive and to vary centre-to-centre distance. Right under forming gears 11, another pair of gears 12 in mesh with former pair is mounted, gears 12 feature sharpened tooth tips to clear spacing between teeth of the said forming gears.
EFFECT: efficient and timely adjustment of granule grain size and density.
