FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention deals with technique of testing superconductive cable insulations for electrical strength. The invention concept is as follows: the superconductive cable being tested is filled with a gas instead of coolant medium and tested for electrical strength of its insulation at normal temperature. It is preferable that prior to the insulation electrical strength testing preliminary electrical strength testing be done. For the above preliminary electrical strength testing one prepares the first reference superconductive cable filled with coolant medium at a pressure specified and the second reference superconductive cable filled with a gas instead of coolant medium at a pressure specified. The first and the second reference superconductive cables are preliminarily tested for electrical strength at the coolant medium temperature and normal temperature accordingly with a view of estimating correlation of insulation electrical strength properties between the two cables. The testing voltage is defined per the insulation electrical strength property of the second reference superconductive cable.
EFFECT: provision for possibility of estimating properties of a coolant-medium filled superconductive cable insulation without having to fill the cable with coolant medium.
