FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: present invention can be used in electrical engineering. The method and system for protection in a communal electric network involve detecting short circuit current in the superconducting electric cable, determination of the total energy, dissipated in the superconducting electric cable from the short circuit current and current of at least, one previous short circuit for a given period of time, and determination of whether to disconnect the superconducting electric cable from the communal electric network, based on the total dissipated energy.
EFFECT: increased reliability of protecting a high temperature superconducting power cable during use.
