SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to apparatus for counting the number of passengers in vehicles and can be used in different systems with RS-485 interface. Several functions in a single housing, easier to mount, availability of a single twisted pair for the RS-485 interface independent of the number of mounted sensors, which allows for fast, easy and cheap mounting; availability of a standby power supply, which maintains operation of real-time clocks and the microprocessor when the battery of the vehicle is disconnected; unit for protection from voltage surges in the power supply circuit, which arise from faults in the stator of the vehicle; availability of a unit for controlling the state of internal power backup and battery of the vehicle. The multifunctional infrared sensor with a double-line RS-485 interface is fitted above the counting point in the vehicle and consists of a small housing, in which is mounted a circuit board, connected through a twin wire to the battery of the vehicle and connected to an external device when part of a system using a twisted pair through an RS-485 interface.
