FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of generating powerful broad band electromagnetic pulses with duration in the subnanosecond range and can be used in making corresponding generators. The electromagnetic pulse generator contains a pulsed or pulse-periodic laser, a meshed paraboloid anode and photocathode with an opening for input of laser radiation inline with the paraboloid, connected to a voltage source, and a laser radiation scatterer placed coaxially and confocally inside the anode. The generator is also provided with at least two flat metal plates, fitted inside the anode radially from its axis to its surface. The laser radiation scatterer in the generator is in form of a target made from material which can convert laser radiation to X-rays.
EFFECT: increased amplitude value of generated electromagnetic radiation.
