FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention is referred to method of electromagnetic pulses (EMP) generation and may be used in pulse detection and ranging and pulsed filed testing of radio electronic equipment. In generator of electromagnetic pulses, which includes a flat photocathode and a flat parallel meshed anode connected to voltage source, pulsed or repetitively pulsed light source and converter that converts emission of the light source into spherically diverging wave of optical, UV or X-ray emission, the new feature consists in the fact that the device is equipped with reflector shaped as non-symmetric cut-out of paraboloid of revolution. Between the reflector and its focal point there is photocathode and anode, and between the reflector and anode there is the converter, which emission centre is placed at perpendicular line to the photocathode plane drawn from the reflector focal point. Distances from the converter emission centre up to outer plane of the mesh anode and from the reflector focal point up to the plane of lighted surface of the photocathode are the same. Additional features include the fact that the flat photocathode and flat meshed anode may be shaped as rectangular or circle, or oval or sector. The converter may be made as parabolic mirror with metal or dielectric multilayer coating or as point-source target of spherical, conical or flat shape. The reflector may be made of metal entirely or by metal sputtering onto the load-berating structure of required shape of fibreglass, carbon composite or other composite materials.

EFFECT: improved directivity and increased intensity of the generated electromagnetic emission, which allows expanding its scope of application in radar detecting and ranging and tests methods for pulsed electromagnetic effects.
