FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of depositing wear-resistant coating on a cutting instrument and can be used in metal working. An under layer of a nitride or carbonitride compound of titanium, aluminium and iron is deposited in the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium - 83.7-85.2, aluminium - 13.0-14.2, iron - 1.8-2.1; an intermediate layer from nitride or carbonitride compound of titanium, aluminium, zirconium and iron in the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium - 74.7-77.0, aluminium - 8.4-9.2, zirconium - 13.4-14.7, iron 1.2-1.4; top layer from nitride or carbonitride compound of titanium, aluminium and zirconium in the following ratio of components, wt %: titanium - 64.8-68.0, aluminium - 12.0-13.2, zirconium - 20.0-22.0. Three cathodes are used, lying horizontally in the same plane. The first cathode is made from titanium and iron, the second from titanium and zirconium and is placed opposite the first, and the third cathode is made from titanium and aluminium and is placed in between.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of the cutting instrument.
