The method of adaptive enhancement of facsimile images of documents involves scanning images using a sliding window; obtaining pixel configuration for the current position of the sliding window; generation of pixel configuration, similar to the current configuration; generation of indices for the current pixel configuration and for pixel configuration, similar to the current configuration; updating frequency of occurrence of current configuration and frequency of configurations, similar to the current configuration; compiling a list of corrected pixel configurations; calculation of error probability of occurrence of the current configuration using the ratio of frequencies of occurrence of corresponding configurations; replacement of the current configuration with corrected configuration, if the probability error of occurrence of the current configuration is less than a threshold error value; updating the frequency of occurrence of configurations similar to the corrected configuration if the current configuration at the previous stage has been replaced; refinement of the error threshold; reduction of frequency of occurrence of configurations.

EFFECT: invention allows for improving an image, including removing noise and restore lost small characters.
