FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to microwave and acceleration technology. The method is characterised by that, the coupling coefficient is measured first for a system with an external line, connected to the first resonator (β). The second resonator coupled with the first resonator is then switched off, closing it with a plug, and the coupling coefficient of the altered system with the same external line (β1) is measured, after which the intercavity coupling coefficient of the initial system (K) is determined using the expression: K=[(β1/β-1)/(Q1Q2)]1/2, where Q1, Q2, - are intrinsic Q factors of the first and second resonators respectively. Altering the system of two coupled resonators allowed for using other electrodynamic parametres, which can be measured using standard devices without prototyping any units of the system, for determining intercavity coupling coefficient.

EFFECT: simplification of method and possibility of determining unknown coefficient for coupling which is greater or less than critical coupling.
