FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: proposed combined engine with two-phase working medium comprises ICE coupled with steam expansion machine, economiser or steam generator, condenser and turbo-expander (turbine) arranged along exhaust gas duct and coupled with the engine cylinder. In includes also compressor connected to the cylinders, via intake air lines, and manifold. Note here that foresaid compressor is coupled with turbo-expander (turbine) furnished with a control, device, and condensate tank to collect condensate and discharge it into reserve tank. Proposed method of operating above described engine comprises forcing air into intake manifold by compressor, air cooling by spraying cold water, cooling combustion products in steam generator, economiser and contact-type condense, followed by combustion products expansion in turbo-expander, water drop separation in condenser and turbo-expander. It comprises also feeding cold water into contact-type condenser to cool combustion products and into intake system to cool supercharging air, heat transfer from lubrication system oil to water being heated via heat exchanger, and from cooling system water to that being heated via their mixing. It comprises, further on, feeding steam into expansion machine from steam generator. Note here that fuel is fired on combustion chambers at excess air factor of 1.0 to 1.1, for engine with forced ignition, and at that exceeding 1.1, for engines with combustion-initiated self-ignition. Condenser gas pressure is adjusted by throttling gases ahead of turbine wheel depending upon ambient air temperature. Proceeding from set gas pressure, combustion products are cooled by spraying cold water from water distributor to the temperature of water steam condensation to cool extracted condensate in radiator by ambient air. Invention covers method of operating above described engine, comprising cooling combustion products in steam generator, economiser and contact-type condenser followed by their expansion, feeding cold water into aforesaid condenser to cool combustion products, heat transfer from lubrication system oil to water being heated via heat exchanger, and from cooling system water to that being heated via their mixing, feeding steam from steam generator into expansion machine. Note that working medium cooling inside the cylinders is performed by spraying cold water.

EFFECT: higher engine efficiency, smaller sizes and simpler design.
