FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: increase in sensitivity in the proposed device is achieved due to one-dimensional detection by using the direction of the corresponding free (second) orthogonal coordinate for interaction of γ-quanta with a large amount of substance compared with normal incidence on the surface of microchannel plates. The effect of increase in sensitivity is indicated by a value greater than 10, which was shown by experiments carried out. Proposed versions of the device are distinguished by use of a delay line to obtain signals with position information, which allows for more accurate measurement of required coordinates.
EFFECT: simpler design and use of microchannel plates as radiation sensitive elements.
