FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: everyday the number of hiding springtails (Collembola, Insecta) is counted. For prediction for the following day, the ratio of the number of hiding springtails for the present day, to the number of hiding springtails the previous day is found. If the number is equal or greater than 1.1, then precipitation will definitely take place. The device for counting springtails consists of a wooden peg and a funnel-shaped transparent container. The container is attached to the blunt end of the peg and its funnel-shaped part faces the sharp end. A detachable transparent container is attached to the narrow part of the funnel-shaped container. At the blunt end of the peg there is at least one inclined recess.

EFFECT: simpler forecasting.
