FIELD: construction.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to construction and repair of railway road, in particular to tamping of ballast under sleeper with sleeper tamper. Method for sleeper tamping consists in the fact that values of rail raise are identified in each point of treated track section, tamping pick embedding values are specified with further straightening of track by means of tamping pick displacement in zone above treated sleeper. Further track is lifted and tamping picks are lowered into ballast at a specified depth. Embedding of tamping picks into ballast is done at value that varies for each point of track from previously specified value. Variance value is directly proportional to value of track raise and distance from axis of back trolley of tamper to centre of tamping unit and is inversely proportional to distance from axis of back trolley to axis of metering device wheel. Further tamping picks are moved to sleeper, raised with opening into initial position, and tamper is moved to the following sleeper, then straightening cycle is repeated.
EFFECT: provides for arrangement of an optimal gap between upper edge of tamping pick blade and sleeper bottom along the whole length of treated section of railway track, which results in stable maximum density of ballast under sleeper and provides for stable position of track for a longer period of time.
