FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: for tamping a railway track on the measuring base a natural position of the path in space is determined relative to the fixed coordinates. The design position of the path is calculated. The path is straightened and tamping of ballast is performed under cross-ties by penetration of the tool into the ballast to a value determined relative to the machine frame, taking into account the upper structure of the path and correction of the penetration value. The penetration value correction is determined by the result of comparison of the path design position in space and position of the zero point of the tamping tool based on the machine. Coordinates of the front support of the machine frame for both rails are taken equal to the arithmetic mean value of the coordinates of the left and right rail. Determination of the zero point position of the tamping tool for each of the cross-ties of the area is performed prior to straightening the path or in the process of its implementation separately for each cross-tie. For the first cross-tie, the calculation is carried out before the tool penetration. For each subsequent - upon completion of the penetration.

EFFECT: increased stability to maintain the penetration of the tool into the ballast relative to the supporting surface of each of the cross-ties throughout the treated area of a railway track with simultaneous simplification of the applied techniques and an increased reliability.
