FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: method includes ion cleaning of rotating item surface and surface coating by metal evaporation from cylindrical surface of at least one cooled cathode rim rotating around its longitudinal axis. For this purpose at least one cathode rim is used having two screwed parts distributed along cylindrical surface and manufactured from different metal materials. Speed of cathode rim rotation and cathode spot displacement are selected upon a condition that cathode spot seizes, at least two screwed parts at one cathode spot displacement along longitudinal axis of cathode rim. The cathode unit for coating contains the above mentioned cathode rim, cooling system, current supply system, cathode spot position fixing element on cathode surface and cathode rotating mechanism.
EFFECT: wide technological applications, production nano-thick layers in multi-layer coatings.
