FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing ethylene and propylene by bringing hydrocarbon material, which contains at least one olefin which contains from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, in an amount of at least 20 wt %, into contact with a zeolite-containing moulded catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor for catalytic conversion of at least one olefin, which contains from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, where the zeolite-containing moulded catalyst meets the following requirements from (1) to (7): (1) the zeolite has intermediate pore size ranging from 5 to 6.5 Å, (2) there are at most 0.02 mmol protons per gram of zeolite, (3) the zeolite contains at least one metal chosen from a group consisting of metals related to group IB of the periodic table, (4) molar ratio silicon oxide/aluminium oxide in the zeolite ranges from 800 to 2000, (5) the zeolite-containing moulded catalyst contains silicon oxide as binder, (6) lateral compression breaking strength of the zeolite-containing moulded catalyst is at least 2.5 N/mm, (7) sodium content in the zeolite-containing moulded catalyst, as H-exchange type catalyst, is 500 parts per million or less.

EFFECT: use of a catalyst with excellent properties such as efficiency and selectivity, resistance to degeneration as a result of coking and to degeneration during regeneration, where the catalyst is designed for synthesis of ethylene and propylene through catalytic conversion of hydrocarbon material.
