SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of parametric multichannel processing audio, specifically to efficient distribution of parametric information for controlling a decoder when there are several different sets of parametres available for reconstruction. In a multichannel encoder which generates several different sets of parametres for reconstructing a multichannel output signal using at least one transmission channel, a data stream is recorded such that two sets of parametres are decoded independently of each other, and the multichannel decoder can transmit a set of parametres which is designated optional and/or has a higher version number when reading the data stream, and still carry out reliable multichannel reconstruction using a set of data designated mandatory, or a set of data with sufficiently low version number.

EFFECT: flexible principle of an encoder/decoder suitable for future updates, characterised by backward compatibility and reliability.
