FIELD: physics; radio.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar, more specifically to radar systems for scanning space using radar stations with an electronically controlled beam. The method is based on varying phase distribution in the antenna device of a radar station through electronic control of phase shift of a microwave signal in each antenna radiator. To widen radar coverage beyond the boundaries of the scanning sector, the antenna of the radar station is mounted on a rotating device such that the normal to the antenna device forms an angle α>0° with the axis of rotation of the rotating device and rotates the antenna about its axis by an angle β which varies between 0 and 360° such that, the normal to the antenna device describes a cone with apex angle equal to 2α. Phase distribution in the antenna device is varied, taking into account value of angle α and change of position of the rotating device relative the initial angle β. An electronic scanning zone is formed, and by summing viewing fields obtained during rotation of the antenna on the rotating device and during its electronic scanning, the complete viewing field of the radar station is formed.
