FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: in a device which has a laser radiation source, a solid-state sample with a flat surface which directs surface electromagnetic waves (SEW), an element for converting volume radiation into surface electromagnetic waves and a photodetector, the sample is made in two parts with matching surfaces in a single plane with adjacent lateral faces, the edges of which are interfaced at the intersection with the waveguide surface and are inclined to the track of the surface electromagnetic waves. The conversion element is fixed relative the fixed first part of the sample along the path of the radiation. The second part of the sample can move in parallel to the waveguide surface and the photodetector can move along the line of intersection of the radiation incidence plane and the surface which directs the surface electromagnetic waves.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement.
