FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to bioorganic chemistry. According to the proposed method a test portion of raw plant tissue with mass of 1-2 g is ground up with quartz sand with addition of 5 ml ethanol. The mixture is then filtered, washed with ethanol and a 50 ml extract is obtained. After that 5 ml of the obtained solution is placed in a titration flask. 1.0 ml of 1M KNO3 solution, 0.5 ml of 2N KOH solution and 3.5 ml of distilled water are added. The obtained mixture is titrated with 0.02M solution of methylene blue on a water bath at t=80°C (±2°C) until appearance of a light-blue colour which is stable at the said temperature. Content of reducing sugars is calculated from the law of multiple proportions and mass ratio of reducing sugars in plant tissue in terms of glucose is then determined. The proposed method can be used for analysing medicinal plant material and agricultural products for content of reducing sugars.
EFFECT: design of an efficient method of determining sugars in plant tissue.
