FIELD: physics; signaling.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fingerprint encoding. Proposed is a fingerprint encoding method which involves picking out lines and distinctive features on a fingerprint, determining for each distinctive feature direction angle, coordinate, type, projection on neighbouring lines, topological characteristic in form of an ordered set of pairs of events and the corresponding number of the distinctive feature, for which in the topological characteristic each event is further placed in correspondence with bond length which is measured when moving on the bond from the section to the distinctive feature or projection from the distinctive feature creating the event. The description also includes variations of the topological characteristic and a list of information and non-information zones.
EFFECT: increased reliability of identifying fingerprints.
