FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: papillary pattern encoding method involves picking up lines and features on an imprint, numbering the features, determining for each feature the directional angle, coordinates, type of the feature and two projections on the neighbouring line, construction for each point, except the feature, of each line of the topological characteristic in form of a numbered set of pairs represented by an event and the number of the feature, and joining identical topological characteristics. In the topological characteristic, at least for one event, the length of the link is measured when moving on the line from the section to the point in which the event is detected, and this event is assigned the measured length of the link, and when joining topological characteristics, the new length of the link is calculated for this event based on the earlier assigned lengths of the links of topological characteristics taking part in the joining operation.
EFFECT: high accuracy of identifying an object from the papillary pattern.
