SUBSTANCE: method is claimed for encoding imprints of papillary patterns, which includes selecting lines and features on the imprint, determining direction angle, coordinates, type, curvature vector, scale characteristic, projections onto neighboring lines, topological characteristic in form of orderly set of event pairs and corresponding feature number for each feature. The method features determining the topological characteristic for each point of each selected line, excluding the features, and identical topological characteristics are combined. The description is supplemented with the list of informative and non-informative zones.
