SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mobile communication engineering. A network transmits data from a base station to a mobile station over an additional direct channel. The mobile station tracks signals received from an active set of base stations and identifies the strongest signal of a short active set such that, the respective base station can be selected for data transmission. After onset of conditions indicating that a new base station within the short active set should be selected, the mobile station notifies base stations in the short active set so that, additional data transmission is carried out through the newly selected base station.
EFFECT: increased noise immunity.
