FIELD: electric engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to sources of UV and VUV radiation on the basis of barrier discharge in inertial gases and their mixtures with halogens. Due to variation of lamp dielectric shell shape, value of gas pressure (P) product of gas discharge gap (D) width is reduced. Value PD, with other identical conditions (content of filling, properties of dielectric shell) determines value of breakdown voltage. Reduction of gas discharge gap width in some part of lamp results in reduction of ignition voltage in this part. Due to VUV radiation that occurred in narrowed part of discharge gap, pre-ionisation takes place, and accordingly, discharge is generated in remaining part of gas discharge space. Another important advantage is even irradiance of lamp window. In barrier discharges there is a higher intensity of radiation from thin layers at barriers surface, and barriers are dielectric walls of lamp shell. In suggested solution wall radiation (due to stepped or conical shapes of internal lamp shell in coaxial versions and arrangement of side walls at an angle in "planar" version) more evenly fills lamp window.
EFFECT: expansion of electrical modes of lamps operation, improved quality of surfaces radiation in various technological processes.
