FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: barrier discharge lamp has a planar dielectric jacket with a UV or vacuum UV radiation output window filled with working gas, a mixture of gases or a mixture of gas with vapour of the working substance, and two metallic external electrodes. The main working region of the jacket of the lamp is in form of a capillary with diametre of 1-1.5 mm, length ≥50 mm and has a third external grounded electrode near the window.
EFFECT: maximum specific energy density of excimer radiation at the end of the capillary owing to single-streamer discharge in a capillary whose length is many times greater than the length of streamers in existing lamps.
