FIELD: photochemistry, microelectronics, laser engineering, medicine, ecology, production of group color displays and large-scale screens, information technology.
SUBSTANCE: proposed source of ultraviolet rays or ozone is made in the form of gas chamber with insulating walls filled with working gas medium. Gas chamber accommodates electrodes connected to ac high-voltage source. Electrodes are made in the form of two round-section flexible conductors tightly wound on former to produce coil. At least one electrode is placed in insulating sheath. Clearance between gas chamber walls and outer surface of coil is about 1 mm. Wire leads on one end of coil are insulated and on other end they are connected to high-voltage supply and function as distributed capacitive load in ac circuit. Working medium filling gas chamber may be inert gas or metal vapors when used to generate ultraviolet rays; in this case chamber walls are made of optically transparent material. For visible light generation inner surfaces of chamber walls are covered with photoluminescent phosphor of desired color. For ozone electrosynthesis gas chamber is filled with oxygen-containing gas mixture.
