SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical industry, specifically to the technology of making gradient optical elements used in making optical systems. The method of making a glassceramic lens with refraction index gradient involves synthesis of the initial ceramising glass in a boiling crucible, casting the glass after boiling to obtain a block workpiece, annealing it, inertial cooling and postbaking. Postbaking is carried out in a temperature gradient from 600 to 870°C for 3-100 hours. The specific conditions for postbaking are selected depending on the specified composition of the glass in order to obtain a transparent glassceramic material with the required refraction index gradient ranging from 0.015 to 0.4. Refraction indices of specified types of glass range 1.535 to 1.885.

EFFECT: possibility of obtaining a refraction index gradient in a transparent glassceramic at lengths of several centimetres for use in large optical devices.
